BRONZE MEDALLION COURSE 2024

We are excited to invite you to join our upcoming Bronze Medallion course, designed to provide participants with essential surf awareness, aquatic rescue, and emergency care skills.
Upon successful completion, you will not only gain your Bronze Medallion (PUA20119 Certificate II in Public Safety Aquatic Rescue) and First Aid Certificate, but also be fully qualified to join one of our patrolling teams, contributing to the safety of our community on Dixon Park Beach.

This is an excellent chance to give back to the community, improve your lifesaving skills, and become a valued member of Dixon Park Surf Life Saving Club.

Course Overview

The Bronze Medallion course will equip you with the knowledge and skills required for surf life-saving patrols, including rescue techniques, first aid, radio communications, and spinal management. Additionally, this course opens doors to various other Surf Life Saving (SLS) awards and pathways. You will gain practical, hands-on experience while developing teamwork and leadership skills.

Main Requirements
To commence training for the Bronze Medallion, you must:

-> Be a financial member of an SLS club

-> Be at least 15 years of age on the final assessment date (7 Dec 2024)

-> Complete an unaided swim of 400 m in 9 minutes or less

-> Have an everyday standard of English language, literacy, and numeracy skills

Course Fees

-> $150 for participants aged 18+ (inclusive of DPSLSC Active (18+) Patrolling Member registration fee of $100 and a First Aid Certificate)

-> $110 for participants aged 15-18 years (inclusive of DPSLSC Active (15-18's) Patrolling Member registration fee and a First Aid Certificate)

-> Those who are current paid Nippers Parents/Associate Members for the 2024/25 Season do not need to pay again, as existing rego covers the fee.

Training Calendar (subject to change)

The Training Calendar (click to view) outlines the course dates. Please review it to ensure you can attend all sessions, particularly 'First Aid Course', 'Wet' & 'Dry' assessments. Should you be unable to make any dates, please get in touch ASAP to see if alternate arrangements can be made.

The course will begin on 22 September with an induction session & pool swim*, and training sessions will follow each week. Learning will be a mix of self-directed online learning, in-person theory, and practical (dry & wet sessions).

*Pool swim of 400m (8 laps) in 9 minutes or less – get swimming now as you cannot participate in any training until this is completed!

Note: if you hold a current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011 Provide First Aid) then you will not have to do the course and will need to produce your certificate. Be aware, you will still be required to do Resuscitation part of the First Aid (HLTAID009 - Provide CPR) if you haven't in the 2024 calendar year.
